This week I will talk about the worst wedding I ever played. You get a newer person who didn’t put any of the work in and they can derail the rest of the band. Sometimes this goes splendidly! Truth be told I met a few of my current bandmates THROUGH this organization! But sometimes it’s complete and total chaos. Hundreds of musicians are in a database and bands are built per gig. The former organization I worked for is essentially a musician’s alliance. And though I always jokingly refer to myself as a “whore”, in this business there is no amount of money that covers abuse. I know wedding planning can be stressful, but if a bride is that tightly wound 18 months before her big day then I do not want to be around that wedding. I’ve even refused some couples (gently and professionally, of course) if I don’t think it’s a “good fit”.
But I am still also very bitter because of it, and it 100% affects a lot of the aspects of how I conduct the wedding planning with couples.
I should be grateful for this wedding because it prompted me to get my OWN band and business together for this lucrative wedding industry we all love so much.
